Police blotter – September 2022

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:

Friday, Sept. 30: Routine activity reported.

Thursday, Sept. 29: At 12:32 pm a complainant reported the theft of $10 in pop cans from a residence in the 700 block of W. Sunset Rd. officer is investigating the report. At 31:16 pm an officer investigated a backing accident in the 500 block of E. Monroe St. Karyn Parker was backing a 2018 Ford Transit van owned by Imagine the Possibilities when she struck a parked 2003 Ford F150 pickup truck owned by Kory Schubert of Jefferson. Parker was cited for unsafe backing upon a highway. Damage to the Transit was estimated at $1,000. Damage to the pickup truck was estimated at $200.

Wednesday, Sept. 28: At 8:50 am the Greene County attorney’s office reported a male on the courthouse property for whom there was a valid Greene County arrest warrant. An officer and a Greene County deputy responded. Brian Clausen of Jefferson was arrested for the warrant with an original charge of assault causing bodily injury*. At 12:38 pm an officer responded to a two-vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of N. Elm and W. Washington Sts. Alice Holmes of Woodward was driving her 2005 Buick LeSabre Custom on Elm St (direction of travel not provided). Katrina Buttler of Jefferson was also driving a 2005 Buick LeSabre. Holmes failed to yield upon making a left turn and their vehicles collided. Holmes was cited for fail to yield upon a left turn. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $1,000. Damage to Buttler’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

Monday, Sept. 27: At 10:19 am an officer investigated an accident in the 800 Block of N. Wilson Ave. Dale Roberts of Jefferson attempted to turn his 2014 Thor motor home around in the street but backed into the ditch. Damage to the motor home was estimated at $7,500. It was towed out of the ditch. At 5:25 pm staff at Ace Hardware reported a theft had occurred earlier in the month. The officer started an investigation. At 5:32 pm an officer investigated a backing accident in the parking lot at Greene County Middle School. Tara Quirk of Grand Junction was backing a 2019 Ford F150 pickup truck owned by Andrew Quirk. Ava Binkley of Jefferson was driving a 2014 Mini Cooper owned by Troy Binkley when the two vehicles collided. Damage to Binkley’s vehicle was estimated at $500; Quirk’s vehicle was not damaged.

Monday, Sept. 26: At 7:47 pm an officer investigated a backing accident in the private parking lot at 1505 N. Elm St. Michael Thompson of Creston was backing his 2022 Chevy Silverado pickup truck with a camper and struck a parked 2008 Ford F250 pickup truck owned by Fastlane Motor Parts of Jefferson. Damage to the vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each. *****An officer has completed an investigation that began on 09/24 at Super 8. The officer has requested arrest warrants for Sirjohn Daniels Wilder, 38, of Jefferson for assault- simple and harassment- second degree (serious misdemeanor)*.  

Sunday, Sept. 25: Routine activity reported.

Saturday, Sept. 24: At 11:13 am staff at the Super 8 Motel requested an officer at 207 West Gallup Rd for an aggravated employee. The officer is investigating and charges are pending at this time. At 11:58 pm an officer was advised of a juvenile runaway at Sparky’s One Stop. The officer went to the business and took custody of the juvenile. She was later transported by DHS to a juvenile shelter.

Friday, Sept. 23: At 10:19 am an officer investigated a reported accident in the 800 block of W. Clark St. Jacob Parnell of Jefferson was operating a 2008 Ford Taurus owned by Jason Parnell when he pulled off the street into a bin site and made contact with the building. The vehicle suffered slight damage, while the bin was not damaged. The accident occurred on private property; no citation was issued. At 12:55 pm staff at Casey’s reported finding a citizen taser at the store. The officer took possession of the device. At 2:57 pm staff at Greene County High School reported a teacher had witnessed a juvenile female in possession of a vaping device in class. The officer issued Chloe Dzuris of Jefferson a citation for minor in possession of vaping product. At 10:39 pm a caller advised of a driver doing burn outs in the middle school parking lot. Grant Miller of Jefferson was cited for reckless driving.

Thursday, Sept. 22: At 11:35 ama stray dog was brought to the Greene County jail located at 204 S. Chestnut St. The officer recognized the animal and took it home to the owner. The owner was cited for animal at large prohibited. At 3:07 pm a caller advised of an adult male slapping a juvenile male in the face at Fareway. The officer spoke to the subjects remaining on scene and determined the incident had occurred, but was disciplinary in nature. The officer reported the event to DHS. At 6:10 pm an officer investigated an accident at S. Elm St and Ram Drive. Thomas Ball of Punta Gordo, FL, was stopped at the posted stop sign at Ram Dr. Michael Wallace of Jefferson was northbound on Elm. As he turned onto Ram Dr he struck Ball’s vehicle. Ball reported minor injuries. Wallace was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to Ball’s 2019 Toyota Highlander was estimated a $5,000. Damage to Wallace’s 2010 Ford F150 truck was estimated at $1,500.

Wednesday, Sept. 21: At 6:54 am a complainant reported a stolen motor vehicle. The officer determined the alleged theft occurred in Grand Junction and passed the information to a deputy. At 2:28 pm staff at Wild Rose Casino reported a subject on the gaming floor who had previously signed self-exclusion form. The officer issued Bryan Christopher Roe of Des Moines a summons to appear for trespass*. At4:09 pm a complainant reported a stray dog in the 300 block of Edgewood Dr. The officer placed the dog in the animal holding facility.

Tuesday, Sept. 20: At 12:51 pm an officer investigated an accident at N. Elm and W. Washington Sts. Jerry Hall of Jefferson was eastbound on Washington St driving his 2021 Lincoln Corsair. Bridget Dirks of Nevada was northbound on Elm St driving her 2005 Buick LeSabre. Hall left the stop sign and the two vehicles collided in the intersection. Hall was cited for fail to yield to vehicle on right. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $10,000. Damage to Dirks’d vehicle was estimated at $3,000. At 9:11 pm officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of N. Grimmell Rd for a reported assault. The officers met with a female victim. The officers’ investigation led to the arrest of Enrique Ramon Pacheco Arita, 29, of Jefferson for domestic abuse assault (serious misdemeanor)*.

Monday, Sept. 19: At 3:06 pm staff at Fareway reported a theft. Video showed a female placing an item into her purse and leaving without paying for the item. The officer has requested an arrest warrant for Danielle Lynn Eastman, 36, of Jefferson for theft-fifth degree* (simple misdemeanor)*. Eastman was banned from the property.

Sunday, Sept. 18: At 12:40 am an officer performed a traffic stop with a vehicle which had no visible tail lights near N. Elm and Gallup Rd. The officer arrested Candice Marie Ortiz, 34, of Grand Junction for driving while license barred- aggravated misdemeanor*.  She was also cited for failure to carry registration card and improper rear lamps.

Saturday, Sept. 17: At 5 am a complainant reported catching a stray dog near S. Elm and Grauer St. The officer placed the dog in the animal holding facility. At 10:08 am a complainant reported two suspicious males going door to door near the 500 block of N. Chestnut St. The officer located the subjects in the area and spoke with them. They were going door to door spreading Gospel to people.

Friday, Sept. 16: *****After the completion of an investigation that began 9/12, an officer has charged a juvenile with theft- fifth degree.  

Thursday, Sept. 15: At 8:03 am an officer was advised of fox that appeared to be sick in the 400 block of E. Russell St. The officer looked for the fox but did not locate it. The police department has limited options to deal with fox that appear to be sick or injured. At 12:36 pm an officer was advised of a possible impaired driver on W. Lincoln Way. The officer located the driver in the 100 block of N. Locust St. The driver was subsequently transported to the hospital for possible medical issues, and certain tests were performed to check for impairment. The completion of the investigation is pending laboratory results from those tests. The driver was also issued a citation for fail to obey stop or yield sign. At 3:16 pm an officer was advised of toilet paper blowing out of a yard in the 300 block of E. Harrison St. The officer took no action, as it typically accepted that numerous residences get “tp’d” during homecoming week.

Wednesday, Sept. 14: At 3:55 pm an officer performed a traffic stop in the 700 block of Wild Rose Lane. As a result of the traffic stop, Benjamin Harold Winborne of Churdan was arrested for driving while license barred*. At 4:15 pm a complainant reported a stray dog on her property. The small black dog was taken to the animal holding facility and placed in a run.

Tuesday, Sept. 13: At 6:29 am a complainant reported criminal mischief to a vehicle in the 100 block of E. Vest St. The officer is investigating. At 6:56 pm a complainant reported her legally parked vehicle had been involved in a hit-and-run traffic collision overnight. The officer is investigating. At 10:31 am a complainant of Lake City reported the catalytic converter had been stolen from her recreational vehicle while it was parked in the 1900 block of N. Mulberry St. The officer is investigating. At 9:33 pm an officer was dispatched to the 900 block of W. Adams St for a report of harassment and a vehicle being operated without the owner’s consent. The officer is investigating.

Monday, Sept. 12: At 4:25 pm an officer was advised that a juvenile had shoplifted items from Hy-Vee. The Officer is investigating.

Sunday, Sept. 11: At 2:58 pm while checking on a motorist whose vehicle had mechanical Issues, the officer learned the subject was not valid to drive. Lawrence Shannon Oneal, 47, of Grand Junction was arrested for driving while license barred (aggravated misdemeanor)*. At 8:51 pm a caller reported a sex offender living in Jefferson while listing Grand Junction as his residence on the registry. The officer is investigating.

Saturday, Sept. 10: At 12:28 am security staff at Wild Rose Casino reported ejecting two subjects who were outside, refusing to leave. The officer’s investigation led the arrest of Sarah Mae Ratliff, 42, and Joseph James Ratliff, 40, both of Jefferson for public intoxication (simple misdemeanor)*.

Friday, Sept. 9: At 5:27 pm dispatch received a 911 hang up call from a residence in the 400 block of S. Chestnut St. The officer arrived at the residence and was advised no assistance was needed. The officer could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from the residence and spoke to the occupants. The subjects consented to the officer following them inside the residence and they turned over a smoking device, grinder and a small amount of marijuana. The items were seized for testing with charges pending test results.

Thursday, Sept. 8: At 10:21 am an officer began an investigation of a trespass at Greene County High School. At 3:30 pm an officer took a complaint of an alleged theft of $98 from a wallet at Greene County High School. The officer is investigating.

Wednesday, Sept. 7: At 8:06 pm an officer began an investigation into a student who allegedly touched another student inappropriately.

Tuesday, Sept 6: At 8:45 pm staff at Wild Rose Casino reported suspicious subjects near the facility. The officers located a male subject walking on E. Gallup Rd. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Trevor Lee Antrim, 39, of Arkansas for public intoxication (simple misdemeanor)*.  

Monday, Sept. 5: At 3:29 pm a complainant reported she had been assaulted by a known male while staying at the Cobblestone Hotel. The officer’s investigation led to requesting an arrest warrant for Franklin Nahun Martinez Ortiz, 32, of Hampton for domestic abuse assault- serious*. At 5:28 pm a complainant reported his vehicle had received a “door ding” while parked at Casey’s. The officer is investigating.

Sunday, Sept. 4: Routine activity reported.

Saturday, Sept. 3: At 7:35 pm a resident advised his dog had bitten his nephew at a residence in the 500 block of W. Madison St. The animal was removed from the residence and will be euthanized and tested for rabies in Ames.

Friday, Sept. 2: At 8:59 am an officer took a report of an attempted burglary to a garage in the 400 block of N. Pinet St. The subject(s) did not enter into the garage,but did damage a garage door. At 6:36 pm a complainant advised a deer had run into the side of a parked vehicle at HyVee. The deer was killed from the impact of striking the vehicle. The deer was removed from the area. At 9:22 pm a complainant advised her pit bull had bitten her 2-year-old in the face. The complainant was not in the room during the event. The animal has been removed from the residence and placed in a 10-day quarantine. The incident remains under investigation.

Thursday, Sept. 1: At 8:52the Jefferson postmaster reported a possible scam occurring to a Jefferson resident. The officer looked into the matter and the subject refused any assistance. At 11:35 am a complainant reported a mangy fox walking on the bike trail near the 500 block of E. Garfield St. The officer did not locate the fox. At 6 pm staff at Sparky’s One Stop requested an officer for an unwanted male subject there. The officer assisted the subject with contacting family members, who purchased him a hotel room for the night. At 7:47 pm an officer assisted a subject in the 500 block of N. Chestnut St who was lost. Her residence was located.
